Liquid permeation into silicone rubber (SR) may lead to the degradation or complete failure of composite insulators. Aiming inhibit liquid permeation, two kinds superhydrophobic coatings are applied SR surface. The properties with different types liquids investigated, and Langmuir diffusion model is analyse experimental data. results show that coating can effectively by reducing contact area between surface liquid, stable structure maintain performance after effusion. However, nano-particle without polymer binder experiences severe during immersion test, it cannot restrain anymore loses superhydrophobicity. As a validation effective protection, insulation resistivity change was measured. decreases sharply for pristine water permeation; however, decrease much smaller coated SR. current study not only provides new insight wettability but also suggests an measure prevent
